Work-in-Progress Wednesday: Appalachia

I've cast on for a new project! And, no, I haven't finished those socks...

AppalachiaProgress

It's a knit hat, Appalachia,  by Bear Ears. I'm using Noro Kureyon Sock and Patonyle for the main solid. A fun knit so far with my beloved Noro, though it's going very slow, because I don't know how to do stranded knitting. So I just drop and pick up each colour as I need it. I know I should practise two hands, but it feels too awkward!

I'm doing it as a KAL in Ravelry, which is spurring me on.

I've started back at a new job, so am having less time to blog and craft, but I'm starting to get used to my new schedule. I get a proper lunch break, so have taken knitting a few times, and I'm going to try to make that a habit.

In other news, I'm looking forward to the next Brown Owls meeting on Friday night. I'm glad the meetings are becoming regular again and seeing the old faces.

Lovely colours in the hat - I wouldn't have a clue how to do stranded knitting so 'hats' off to you from me!

That hat looks fabulous, and very difficult, I don't even know what you mean by stranded knitting, so you're way ahead of me. Anxiouis to see this one finished.

You do fabulous work. Now you're encouraging me to find out about and do a project in stranded knitting.

I keep seeing these colorwork hats with some bright colored yarn against a black background, and WANT one every time. I can see why it's distracting you from your socks! Standard rule of thumb is to twist your yarns (crossing one skein over the other) whenever you knit more than 3 or so stitches of a single color. Looks like you're doing great!

Try holding the yarn in one hand. I strand one over the index and one over the middle finger. Then flick which ever finger has the color you need and through it around the needle tip. Unless you are a continental knitter, and then I can't say how best to do two colors one hand.

The hat looks great so far. Love the colors of the Noro that you are using. I have tried stranded knitting with the yarns carried in each hand but found it tedious and painful. Now I carry the yarn exclusively with my right hand.

WOW, that's amazingly beautiful! I haven't done stranded knitting yet, but LOVE the heart hat and am dying to try it. You may have sparked me to give it a whirl.

I love the colors you are using for your hat. It looks like one of those "just one more row" knits.

My biggest mistake I made in my first stranded knit piece was that I carried the yarn too tightly and it puckered.

Pretty yarn! I learned about the Wednesday WIP from you, so will join in.

Oh I love the colours. I have learnt to knit so many times but never get past the learning stage. I think I am meant to sit back and admire the work of others.
